About Jennifer Crain, L.Ac.

Jennifer Crain is a practicing acupuncturist who specializes in treating a variety of children’s health conditions through acupressure, Japanese-style acupuncture and nutritional healing.  Founder and owner of the Goji Seed Eastern health clinic in Austin, Texas, Jennifer divides her time between private consultations on children’s and women’s health, and traveling in search of the newest remedies and approaches to natural healing.

Born in San Francisco to a Russian father and Mexican mother, Jennifer was exposed both to a western and a “common sense” approach to healthcare at a young age. Her father’s family included renowned pediatricians and physicians; her mother’s family relied heavily on home remedies from their cultural tradition, such as ‘polteadas’ and the soups and teas that had been handed down for generations.

Prior to opening The Goji Seed and starting Mommy’s ER, Jennifer worked as a reproductive health researcher at University of California at San Francisco and a virologist for the state of California, providing health care and health education to underserved populations. For six years, she directed public health programs in Latin America, where she developed and managed  programs in maternal-child healthcare, nutrition and immunization campaigns.   She holds a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine from the Academy of Oriental Medicine in Austin. Jennifer opened the Goji Seed Clinic in 2005, where her integrated, holistic approach was quickly embraced by the local community.  She has also extensively studied yoga and meditation as tools for health and well-being.

Her work at Goji Seed (where children have always accounted for over 50% of her practice), her experience in public health, and her role as a mother, have all served as the inspiration for creating Mommy’s ER.

The natural health solutions that Mommy’s ER promotes are designed to work in conjunction with the care and advice of a pediatrician or pediatric specialist. As this complimentary approach becomes increasingly mainstream, it’s Jennifer’s hope that parents will feel confident taking a more active role in addressing and treating their child’s health issues.

“It’s really about empowerment and helping your child achieve optimal health, energy and calm in a positive way, through simple, yet effective techniques,” says Jennifer. “Whether it’s the work I do at the clinic or at home with my son, all of it has informed and inspired me to continue to seek a balance between eastern and western medical care.”

Jennifer resides in Austin with her husband Brian and their five-year old son, Aidan.
